The Flying Hatter is a family-based business hatting out of Durango, Colorado. Our felt and palm straw hat bodies are ethically sourced and made in the beloved Smiley Building in downtown Durango. We produce small batches of hats that are uniquely made with old hatting techniques. Each family member touches the hats with unique skills from blocking, shaping, painting, and sewing fiber producing beautiful wearable art. No two hats are alike. Visitors walk away with a custom piece of headwear, and an heirloom to pass through generations.
