There’s more to discover at the Telluride Jazz Festival than world-class music.
On Saturday morning, August 9, festivalgoers are invited to step into Telluride’s celebrated past with the Telluride Historical Museum’s Historical Walking Tours.
Led by longtime local resident and storyteller Ashley Boling, these complimentary tours offer a fascinating journey through the town’s rich history—from its Ute Native American roots and silver mining boom to legendary figures like Butch Cassidy and the iconic Galloping Goose train.
As you stroll through downtown Telluride, you’ll experience the Victorian-era architecture and historic landmarks that helped earn the town its designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1961. Stops include the Sheridan Opera House, the New Sheridan Hotel, and the site of Butch Cassidy’s first successful bank robbery, along with stories of Telluride’s colorful past.
Tours are limited to 35 participants each and are offered free of charge:
Tour 1: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Tour 2: 10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Both tours meet in front of the San Miguel County Courthouse across from Elks Park on Colorado Avenue. Participants are encouraged to arrive 10–15 minutes early and should be prepared for a leisurely walk through downtown and approximately one hour of standing.

Ashley Boling has called the San Juan Mountains home since 1990 and has long been an integral part of the Telluride community. Situated in a historic, refurbished 1896 hospital, The Telluride Historical Museum brings Telluride’s past to life through exhibits, tours and events.
