The Budos Band is gonna blow your hair back. The nine-piece band out of Staten Island weds the sounds of Afro-funk, 60s soul music, jazz and hard rock into a tripped-out psychedelic mélange that has been blowing minds over the course of five records on the Daptone label. This unique powerhouse of a band first got together in 2005 at a jam session overseen by the New York band Antibalas and played on label mate Charles Bradley’s album, “Changes.” The death of beloved colleague Sharon Jones hit the band hard and they scattered for a time before reuniting for 2019’s “Budos Band V,” a record Kerrang! described as, "cinematic yet menacing, the soundtrack to a bad drug trip in the desert in a blaxploitation flick." How cool is that?
