Not only is Benny Benack the third Benny Benack, he’s third in a line of noted Pittsburgh jazz musicians. And since three is the magic number, let’s also mention that he’s a triple threat onstage — he’s an exciting trumpet player, a smooth-voiced and agile singer, and when he sits before a piano, the 88s absolutely swing. His 2020 release I’ve Got A Lot of Living to Do, is a stunning showcase of all three of those extraordinary gifts, with the title track a fun tune from Bye Bye Birdie that sets the record’s aural invitation on a silver platter. Stages around the world have hosted Benny and his solo trumpet excursions have been featured in works by Christian McBride Big Band, Diplo/Major Lazer, Ann Hampton Callaway, Melissa Errico, Josh Groban, Ben Folds, fashion icon Isaac Mizrahi and more. He’s an exciting young talent with endless promise and serious chops. We’re honored to add our festival to his impressive resume.
