For the uninitiated, it is no exaggeration to say that Robert Randolph brings the joy. From his position behind the pedal steel guitar at center stage, he steers the Family Band through a kinetic kaleidoscope of uplifting music. He brings the same kind of ecstasy he once incited in his House of God worship services, in the days before he was even aware there was music beyond the church walls, and a world that would embrace him with the same rhapsodic fervor as the faithful.
Robert Randolph’s live sets are reminiscent of those of Sly and The Family Stone. Each player brings commitment, joy, funk and love to every pulsating beat. The pedal steel – also called sacred steel in the House of God – is a particularly exciting instrument and Robert coaxes unearthly sounds from those electrified strings.
His newest record, Preacher Kids, earned him the 2026 Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. It is a deeply funky, passionate testament to his love of the gospel, blues, funk and rock that informs his captivating sound. We just love him and are deeply honored to finally welcome him back to the mountains where his music soars to the peaks. Make a joyful noise!
