Schedule

Friday, August 7 at 1:30 - 2:20 pm (Foundation Stage)

On the other side of the Continental Divide, nestled at the feet of the Flatirons, University of Colorado, Boulder, College of Music is home to the Thompson Jazz Studies Program. This program was created to give young musicians a platform on which to learn, grow and explore.

This award-winning program includes a variety of ensembles including Latin and vocal jazz, and big band. For our festival, the university is sending students from the Thompson Jazz Combo. This program emphasizes the development of improvisational skills in a small group setting, as well as education in arranging and composing. According to the school’s website, DownBeat magazine’s Student Music Awards recognized one of their combos and “one of the nation’s outstanding small jazz ensembles.”

Of all the acts we book, putting student musicians before our discerning audiences is something we do not take lightly. They are the future of this music we love and we’re proud to give them a stage on which to show off their impressive skills.
